School Description:

Mission Hills International School is planned as a co-educational, bi-lingual (English and Mandarin) through-train day school for students in Kindergarten (age 3) to University entrance. The campus will be purpose-built for Mission Hills and international school specifications, located immediately adjacent to the Mission Hills resort in Shenzhen, China. By car, it is only 30 minutes from Shenzhen City Center, and 1.5 hours from Hong Kong.

The Pre-Schoolwill open in September 2015 in a newly built, spacious and well-equipped stand-alone facility. In September 2017 we will open Phase 2, the new Lower and Upper Schools with state-of-the-art facilities.

Curriculum in the Pre-School and Lower School will be internally designed with significant strands derived from the Ministry of Education in Ontario (Canada), Chinese Primary School curriculum and other best practice international frameworks. Much of the pedagogical approach will be based on the IB PYP programme. Upon entry into the Upper School, all MHIS students will be fully enrolled in the IB MYP and DP programmes.

Position Overview:

With recognition that the Faculty and students at Mission Hills International School are the school ' s most valuable resource, we are seeking to appoint an exemplary School Doctor to assist with facilitating the well-being, health and safety of our school community. The successful candidate is expected to support the school ' s Mission and Vision and will possess personal and professional qualities that lend themselves to excellence in health care within an educational setting.

Major Duties:

The candidate will

  • Work with the Associate Principal and Head of School to help prevent illness and injuries, care for students and staff as required and monitor the Pre School environment to optimize health and wellbeing.
  • Conduct morning temperature, hand and mouth checks of all students on entry to the Pre School campus.
  • Provide first aid, nursing care, observation and assessment to sick or injured students and keep parents informed as needed.
  • Administer medicine to children in line with parent requests and in adherence with MHIS Health and Safety Policy guidelines.
  • In case of accident and emergency situations involving individuals, follow Accident Emergency Steps within the Health and Safety Policy.
  • In case of emergency or disaster, provide support with the implementation and review of the Emergency Evacuation Procedure.
  • Monitor Air Quality inside and outside of the Pre School Campus, including daily monitoring of the UV index, Pollution levels and temperature. Advise the Associate Principal when outside access should be restricted.
  • In line with government requirements, assess the health condition of newly enrolled students; arrange students ' annual health checks; keep all students annual health reports on file.
  • Maintain records of student illness and absence in line with MHIS Attendance Policy.
  • Arrange Chinese national employees ' annual health check with support from Mission Hills HR department.
  • Provide medical care and medication to staff in case of illness or injury as required during the working day.
  • Ensure school medical and sterilizing equipment and medicines are kept and used safely.
  • Offer advice to the community and put in place preventative measures in response to contagious and seasonal disease warnings and outbreaks.
  • Regularly publicise medical care knowledge within the MHIS community.
  • Work with the Associate Principal to monitor and advise about food safety and nutrition standards, in line with government guidelines.
  • Act as communication point for Kitchen Staff and Cleaner and report any issues to Associate Principal.
  • Provide monthly reports to the Associate Principal and Head of School regarding standards of health, hygiene, safety and meal nutrition.
  • Provide support to teachers with the development of health education curriculum plans and, where practical and advantageous, assist teachers with delivery of the program.
  • Complete other tasks as assigned by Associate Principal and Head of School.

Required and Preferred Qualifications and Experiences:

  • Nursing Qualification/ Certificate(required)
  • Local Government Kindergarten Healthcare Training(required - prior to start date)
  • Relevant nursing experience within a school or kindergarten setting(reqired)
  • Working level English (required)
  • A positive, communicative individual with a caring and responsible attitude to all major duties (required)
