Holistic Development
Globally-minded students with positive social behaviors, leadership skills, emotional and physical well-being and artistic sensibility.
Holistic Development
Holistic education has been identified as one of the core values of the school. Holistic education reflects the education of the whole child. The focus is on the fullest development of the person. It emphasizes education of the student not just through an academic curriculum but beyond the confines of the classroom as well. At Mission Hills, we want our students to:
- develop healthy relationships and positive social behaviors
- become globally minded
- acquire leadership skills
- connect with one's community
- improve their emotional and physical health and well-being
- pursue creative and artistic endeavors
Holistic development implies that students will look at their school and the myriad of opportunities available to them not in isolation or as separate parts but as a single entity – in its totality. By doing so, they have the potential to become the very best or finest that they can be and to experience all that is available from life at school and life beyond school.
The best way we can support students with holistic development is to offer a wide assortment of activities outside of the classroom and to encourage them to participate in ones that meet their interests and needs. Involvement in co-curricular activities will also help form an exciting dynamic that promises to shape the MHIS community in meaningful ways.
At MHIS, we intend to provide students with a daily robust Physical Education program. Research has shown a connection between increased levels of physical activity and better academic achievement, concentration, classroom behavior, and more focused learning.
Pablo Picasso said "Every child is an artist. The challenge is to remain an artist after you grow up."
The arts teach children that problems can have more than one solution and that questions can have more than one answer.
