Welcome to the Admissions Team

Thank you for your interest in our school. We're pleased that you have arrived at this page on our website. Our Admissions Team recognizes that applying to a new school takes careful consideration, precious time, and can sometimes be considered a difficult family matter. Please be assured that we are here to support you with your application and to make every step along the way as user friendly as possible.

Our goal from day 1 is to begin the lengthy process of providing continuous support to your child as they attempt to fulfill the promise contained in our Mission Statement: "to empower students to pursue excellence in its' many forms and to acquire the skills necessary to become critical thinking self-actualized problem solvers and compassionate global citizens." Although it may take only seconds to receive one's diploma at a graduation ceremony, it takes years to get to that pivotal point in one's life. Please be assured that we embrace the challenge of meeting each child's individual learning and developmental needs and to set them on the right path toward achieving their goals and fulfilling their vast potential. It starts with admissions and the application process.

Who can apply?

Mission Hills International School welcomes applications from Chinese Nationals and foreign passport holders alike. We recognize the importance of national and cultural diversity in the make-up of an international school. We offer a bi-lingual or dual language (Chinese and English) university-preparatory program. We strongly believe in and will pay significant attention to holistic development. Part of our mandate is to prepare students to be successful and fully engaged at English speaking universities around the world. We are committed to providing curriculum that is age and developmentally appropriate. In that context, it will transition from playful to inquiry-based to robust and to rigorous. We expect that it will always be enjoyable and inspirational.

Mission Hills International School is interested in applicants and parents who understand and are in agreement with our stated goals and the school's Vision, Mission and Core Values. Further, it is critical that parents support the dual-language framework in place at the school, the inquiry-based conceptual program offered in the Pre-School and Lower School, and the rigorous university-preparatory program espoused by the International Baccalaureate that we expect will be offered in the Upper School.

We look forward to receiving your application and to have your family join our school community.

How does the process work?

The Admissions process is selective at all grade levels. However, the nature of the assessment tool used is dependent on the grade level the student is applying for. Once all relevant materials have been submitted the application package is immediately reviewed by a member of the Admissions Team. The Admissions team will determine whether an assessment or interview is required and will schedule one or both accordingly. An offer of admission is extended if the child meets the appropriate grade-level criteria established.

We pledge to communicate admissions decisions as early as possible. As a new school, it is fair to say that we are looking for students to fill spaces but we want to be certain that students selected have every opportunity to succeed and are a good match for the school and the nature of the programs offered.

If a grade level is at capacity we will maintain a wait-list for qualified applicants. When seats become available, candidates on the wait-list are considered in context with one another and not on the basis of when the application was received. The wait-list is maintained for the applying school year only.

Admission shall not be denied because of nationality, race, gender or creed. At all grade levels we will be looking for evidence that individual learning needs can generally be met within the mainstream classroom and without significant additional adult intervention or learning support.

We strongly believe that social and intellectual development is best served when students are clustered with children of the same age. Occasionally, students will accelerate or repeat a year when taking into account their academic history, language development, physical maturity and month of birth. This is only undertaken when the student, parent, teacher and Principal are in complete agreement.
