MHIS 21st March 2015 “Information Session” Highlights

23 Mar 2015

Significant progress has been made to ensure that the MHIS Pre School will open as planned in September 2015. A series of five “Information Sessions” have been scheduled to help parents learn more about the Pre School’s philosophy, program, staffing arrangements, and facilities. The most recent session was held on Saturday 21 March 2015 at the Country Club. We were pleased with the turnout of 182 parents and 95 prospective students.

In his speech, Head of School, Mr. John Jalsevac, made referenceto some of the differences between international schools and government schools in China. He described how international schools place added value on the importance of creativity, problem-solving, and entrepreneurial skills. Further, students in international schools are exposed to learning opportunities that build confidence, passion, and global understanding and competency. These same students grow to understand the importance of collaboration and teamwork in the development of new ideas and how social intelligence and networking are key aspects of collaboration.

The Associate Principal of the Pre School, Anna Packman, spoke about relationships, communication and language usage in an international school Early Years program. She described how teachers will model for children the skills needed to develop positive relationships and how teachers build capacity in children with regard to communication and socialization skills including respect. Ms. Packman also shared with the audience how teachers can best assist children with the transition from being naturally egocentric at a very young age to becoming more aware and understanding of other children’s perspectives and feelings. This process shapes their thinking patterns as children begin to make sense of and apply the knowledge and skills they are introduced to and will acquire.

Executive Director, Mr. Bill Wang, spoke about the exciting school design and building plans. He also addressed staffing and recruitment plans, class size parameters, and school license matters. Renditions from the architectural team were displayed.

The second part of the session featured a fun-filled cooperative game, mural painting, and a guided discovery activity in the Country Club’s ecological garden.

MHIS is now accepting Pre School applications for admission into K1, K2, and K3 for 3 – 5 year old children. The Pre School will open in September 2015. The Lower and Upper Schools will both open in September 2017.
