Academics
Curriculum Overview

Bilingual and inquiry-based. Designed to help every student acquire the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to reach their full potential.

The IB Advantage

The IB programs are designed to help students develop the intellectual and personal skills necessary to live, learn and work in a rapidly globalizing world. At its heart is an explicit Learner Profile, which encourages students to be open-minded inquirers, reflective learners, intellectual risk-takers, as well as caring citizens of the world.

Pre-School

Young children have an enormous capacity to learn. To maximize learning, it is critical that they are immersed in a secure, happy, stimulating and positive environment. The approach or pedagogy used to deliver the curriculum consists of a balance of inquiry, play, guided instruction and explicit instruction.

Lower School

The program in place focuses on the development of the whole child - academically, socially and emotionally. Every homeroom class will have two teachers assigned with native language abilities in English and Mandarin. We believe in a "language across the curriculum" philosophy where the two teachers plan in a collaborative mode and deliver the inquiry-based integrated program in both languages.

Upper School

All students in Grades 7 - 10 a will be fully immersed in the IB Middle Years Program. The MYP Approaches To Learning skills focus on the process of learning, helping students to become confident, independent, self-managed learners for life. The IB Diploma Program (DP) is a rigorous and well-rounded two-year university preparatory program for students in Grades 11 and 12. The program has gained recognition and respect from the world's leading universities.

Holistic Development

Globally-minded students with positive social behaviors, leadership skills, emotional and physical well-being and artistic sensibility.

Leadership and Clubs

Committed to provide opportunities for students to develop and refine leadership skills. We will not be satisfied with a passive learner who is unwilling to assume a reasonable expectation of ownership and responsibility for their education. Leadership skills will be modeled and taught.

Fine and Performing Arts

Involvement in the Arts is associated with gains in Mathematics, verbal skills, cognitive ability, and critical thinking. In addition, we are of the view that an Arts education not only inspires intrinsic pleasure and stimulation but can also improve motivation, confidence and teamwork.

Athletics

The excellent sporting facilities planned and willingness to hire qualified and experienced coaches will enable us to host and participate in a wide range of competitive and non-competitive events. We will also leverage the world class golf and tennis facilities available at Missions Hills and will have access to the NHL (National Hockey League) size indoor ice rink located next to the school at Mission Hills Centreville.

Elite Sport Academies

The MHIS Elite Golf, Tennis and Ice Hoceky Academies will be established to assist talented 10-18 year old student athletes reach their potential and achieve at the highest level of performance in their chosen sport.

Getting started

By car, it is only 30 minutes from Shenzhen City Center, 1 hour from Hong Kong airport and 1.5 hours from Guangzhou. A nearby MTR station is due to open in 2018.

Boarding will be available on the school campus in new, modern purpose-built quarters for grades 7 to 12.

School Uniform

Our MHIS Pre School uniform is an important part of our identity. Wearing the correct uniform is an affirmation of belonging to, believing in and respecting our learning community.
Admissions
Admissions Process

Mission Hills International School welcomes applications from Chinese Nationals and Foreign Passport holders alike. We recognize the importance of national and cultural diversity in the make-up of an international school. We offer a bi-lingual (Chinese and English) university-preparatory program. We strongly believe in holistic development.

Open House and School Tours

Pre-School located in newly built property, with sophisticated in-door library, computer lab, gym, art, music and discovery science rooms; and semi-covered outdoor play-space.

Lower and Upper School to open in Sept. 2017 on a state-of-the-art purpose-built 10-acre campus.
